Wildlife Habitat
1,690 sq ft. 2021. Temple City
Installation by Green Splendor Landscaping
As an ecologist and bird lover, the home owner had been wanting to convert his barren lawn to a flourishing wildlife habitat for a long time. He had started working on a small section by himself before deciding that he could use some help!
An entirely native garden was designed, giving priority to local caterpillar hosting plants. Trimmings from the Crepe Myrtle tree were used to build a hugelkulture mound, which was left un-mulched to provide a spot to grow wildflowers. Water sources for birds are provided from two re-circulating fountains (one is the rock pile!). Other features include a rainwater capturing dry-creek bed, permeable decomposed granite paths, and solar lights.
